'Monkey See' intends to be a new body of work (Paintings & Drawings), using portraiture to investigate notions of Man, Beast, God and Origin.
Ian Healy's previous paintings and drawings include a recent exhibition at Attic salt Gallery Edinburgh, entitled 'Offerings' which was part of the Edinburgh Art Festival'08.This exhibition drew on aspects of Religion in its various guises; religious reason and it's role playing today. A forthcoming solo exhibition entitled 'Folk' will be at The Harbour Art Centre Irvine in August '09. This exhibition will include previous Paintings of fictional characters and a new suite of drawings.
Recent work demonstrates a controversial element, but the
closer aim is an attempt to demonstrate with assertion, the paradox
of religious reason and role-playing. The examination of religion and
its true uses today where symbolic images in the media are confused
with attitudes of hatred, suspicion, political misinformation and extremist
comment.
Paintings are usually oil on canvas or oil on paper. Drawings use various types of charcoal. Both the paintings and drawings can vary substantially in size.
